About Des Ryan
Desmond Ryan B.L. is a practising barrister in the Law Library, Dublin, specialising exclusively in Employment Law since 2006, and is a Lecturer in Law and Director of Teaching and Learning (Undergraduate) at Trinity College Dublin where he lectures and researches in both Employment Law and Employment Litigation, as well as in the Law of Torts.
Des holds first class Law degrees from Trinity College Dublin and from the University of Oxford, and was awarded a PhD in Law for his doctoral research in 2010.
Des acts for a wide range of individual, national and multinational clients and he has appeared very regularly before the Employment Appeals Tribunal, the Equality Tribunal, the Rights Commissioner Service and the Labour Court, as well as before the Superior Courts. He is a founding member of the Irish Employment Law Association and is a member of the Employment Bar Association, Law Library, Dublin, the Health and Safety Lawyers’ Association of Ireland and the European Employment Lawyers’ Association.
Des publishes widely in national and international publications concerning Employment Law and is also the co-author of the textbook Employment Law in Ireland (Dublin, 2009). His work has been cited on a number of occasions in both judgments of the Superior Courts and in international peer-reviewed academic journals.
Des gives CPD lectures regularly to colleagues in both the solicitors’ and barristers’ profession, to the judiciary, and to Human Resources professionals.
