Setting Performance Expectations

By the end of this session delegates will know how to set performance expectations for their employees – the tasks and behaviours that are required of them (or to coach Line Managers on how to set these expectations)

Clear, two-way, structured, regular, empathetic communication with team members is even more important in a remote working environment, where we can’t avail of the opportunity to ‘drop by your desk’ for a chat; this session explains to delegates how to have a positive, open dialogue with team members to set goals and expectations, how regularly we should do this, and how we should follow up

10.15

How to Delegate

By the end of this session delegates will know how to delegate tasks to each individual, depending on the job maturity of each team member (using Hershey & Blanchard’s situational leadership model)

Effective delegation of tasks is essential if a leader or Line Manager is to (1) develop his/her staff (2) manage his/her own workload and (3) get team tasks done! It is a skill that is rarely taught, although we are told that if a team member can do the task 80% as we can, we should be delegating that task to the team member! This session introduces delegates to a model to help them assess the different approaches to task delegation that will work, depending on the ‘job maturity’ of the person you are delegating to, and how to handle the delegation conversation and the tracking of tasks in a remote working environment

What is my personal management style and what impact do I have on my team members’ performance?

By the end of this session delegates will know their main personal management styles, and will be able to use this awareness to adjust their approach, depending on the employee performance challenge they are faced with, and to develop skills to address the areas that they find most difficult to handle when it comes to managing employee performance

Every individual is unique when it comes to how hands-on or hands-off their management style might be; there are 2 people in every conversation, and your management style as a leader will influence the way in which your team members react to you;  Working in pairs in breakout sessions, the group will complete an exercise designed to give them guidance on their ‘default’ personal management styles, and how to flex their style of management to suit different situations, and how to do all of this in a remote working environment

Scenarios will include: -

  • Tackling careless mistakes, /process or procedural errors at work
