Modern Slavery at Work

About this course

Modern slavery is a serious and often hidden crime where individuals are exploited for criminal gain. It encompasses slavery, servitude, human trafficking and forced labour, all of which have devastating effects on victims.

This all staff training course is designed to raise awareness of modern slavery at work helping all members of staff understand what it is, how to identify the warning signs, and how to report it effectively.

Legal Island’s Modern Slavery at Work eLearning course is tailored specifically to Northern Ireland law and provides comprehensive compliance training for all staff.

Why Modern Slavery Training at Work Matters for Employees in Northern Ireland

Staff training on modern slavery is essential because modern slavery remains a present-day reality across Northern Ireland. Its hidden and insidious nature often allows it to go unnoticed, despite being one of the gravest violations of human rights. Modern slavery encompasses a range of exploitative practices, including forced labour, sexual exploitation, domestic servitude, and criminal exploitation. Victims are frequently controlled through coercion, threats, or deception, leaving them unable to seek help and making it difficult for others to recognise the signs.

Due to its hidden nature, modern slavery at work is challenging to detect. Many people can be unaware they have encountered potential victims, underscoring the critical need for heightened awareness and vigilance. The PSNI’s Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Unit have described modern slavery as “one of the fastest-growing crime types in the UK," highlighting the urgency of tackling this ongoing crime.

Training equips all staff with the skills and knowledge to recognise the signs of modern slavery and understand their responsibility to report it effectively. This training not only raises awareness but also complements existing policies and procedures on modern slavery, ensuring a unified approach across your organisation in Northern Ireland.
