How Do We Make A Claim Under The JSS?
Posted in : First Tuesday Q&A NI on 6 October 2020 Issues covered: Coronavirus; Job Support Scheme; Furlough; Coronavirus Job Retention SchemeThe JSS will be open from 1 November 2020 to the end of April 2021. Claims can be made online via gov.uk and the system will open in December 2020. Grants under the JSS will be paid on a monthly basis and in arrears. This means that a claim can only be submitted:
- in respect of a given pay period;
- after payment to the employee has been made; and
- after that payment has been reported to HMRC via an RTI return.
The above measures along with HMRC’s auditing rights are in place to help circumvent abuse of the JSS.
If HMRC finds a claim to be incorrectly or fraudulently made, it has the right to withhold payment or to require the grant to be re-paid. HMRC will also notify employees directly of full details of any claim made in relation to them under the JSS. This will hopefully enhance the transparency of the JSS and enable employees to be kept informed.
