John Simpson has worked as an academic with interests in economic policy questions as a Senior Lecturer in Economics at Queen’s University and, latterly, as a visiting Professor in the University of Ulster. At different dates he has held appointments in Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Malta, and HM Treasury. After opting for early retirement, he is now self-employed as a business analyst and economics specialist as well as an occasional writer on business and economics, both locally and nationally. He is an active Arbitrator available to the LRA and to other private sector organisations. More recently, by invitation, he chaired the Greater Shankill Taskforce working alongside Padraic White who chaired the West Belfast Task Force. For 12 years, until 2006, John served as a UK nominee on the European Economic and Social Committee and as its Vice-President from 2000-2002. In addition, John was appointed as the first Commissioner for Judicial Appointments in NI and served on the panel for England and Wales from 2001-6. He also served for periods as Chair of the Eastern Health and Social Services Board and the Probation Board for Northern Ireland. |
