• Just over 13 million people live in Malawi.
• Life expectancy is around 41 years
• 14% of the population is believed to have HIV/AIDS
• Literacy rate is just over 62%

How does Legal-Island raise money?

With every event we hold we ask delegates to fill in an evaluation form to find out how we performed, for each completed form we then donate €1 in the South and £1 in the North of Ireland to our Malawi charity.

We have held many fundraiser events including pub quizzes, a survey to all our customers at Christmas for their opinions and for every reply we received we donated £1 to Malawi. Also just a few months ago as a wedding present for Scott Alexander we paid for a wedding in Malawi, an occaison for all in the town to celebrate and enjoy.

What does our money do?

Over Christmas 08 our CEO Barry Phillips went to Malawi to see in what ways our money helps others. The money raised goes on a number of activities including :

• Roofing projects for those who need urgent shelter
• Micro loans which help generate business initiatives
• Women empowerment projects to encourage women to start businesses
• Business development projects which encourage young people to develop entreprenurial skills
• Mental health projects giving support in the community to those who have mental health problems.
